Angel dal Ciel disceso
in bel sembiante umano
scopre a Donzella umil
come s’incarne il Re del Ciel Sovrano
per ristorar il mondo e per salvarne.

Ave beata e santa
di Dio gran genitrice,
porta felice a noi del Paradiso
ove il Suo amor n’allice;
fa’ che godiam in Ciel’ del tuo bel viso.

English translation

An angel descended from Heaven
in handsome human form
explains to a humble woman
how the King of Heavens becomes flesh
to restore the world and save it.

Hail blessed and saint
mother of God,
for us auspicious door to Heaven
whence His love beckons us;
in Heaven, let us delight in your pretty face.
