Double categorization?

Can a piece categorized as a SOLO work, and as Tenor SOLO, also be categorized as MEDIUM Voice ? (Or is only one subcategory desired ?) Johnhenryfowler 02:12, 2 April 2008 (PDT)

Hmm this is a bit of a tough one. I reckon there needs to be a review of the solo vocal categories which I will try to remember to begin soon. For the moment, I suggest categorising with a single voicing category, in this case, tenor solo. --Bobnotts talk 09:15, 6 April 2008 (PDT)
If you check the Category:Solo medium, it suggests that "medium" usually refers to Mezzo-Soprano or Baritone, while Category:Solo high represents itself as suitable for Soprano or Tenor. It is my impression that using high, medium or low is non-gender specific, whereas Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass usually refers to a male singer, with Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto (yes, it should be Contralto, since Alto originally was a high male voice) traditionally referring to a female singer. Interestingly enough, there are extremely high Countertenors who refer to themselves as Sopranists, and still other Countertenors refer to themselves a male Altos. -- Chucktalk Giffen 10:21, 6 April 2008 (PDT)
