English text
When darkness falls and trials dim our view,
How can we see a road that leads to peace?
As heartache and sorrow pierce us through
How shall we rise to find a sweet release?
A tide of sin, a torrent of despair
Leave in their wake a yearning for the light;
Yet, as we look to heaven, it is there:
A glorious dawn ascending from the night.
“Come thou afflicted”, our Savior beckons.
“Thou tempest tossed, come unto me.
Cast down thy burden, thou heavy laden;
Put on my yoke, that it may strengthen thee.
Thy mortal suffering is but a moment
In the expanse of all eternity.”
If we have eyes to see, the path is clear.
The way is marked; His footprints lie ahead.
And though we bow beneath a load of care
His loving arms sustain us ‘til the end.
Then let us strive to patiently endure
And let us learn to hunger for his word,
That we may stand through our refiner’s fire
And come to know the Savior as Lord.
“Come thou afflicted”,…
