Mein Gemüt erfreuet sich,
Jesu, wenn ich denk an dich,
mein betrübter Sinn und Mut,
Jesulein, o Himmelsglut.

Wenn ich meinen Jesum seh
und in großen Sorgen steh,
so erwallet mein Geblüt,
Jesulein, von deiner Güt.

Alle Musik in der Welt,
was der Mensch vor lieblich hält,
Lauten, Harfen, Cymbeln Klang,
mit der Geigen spiele Dank.

Posaunen und Trompeten Hall,
auch der Dulcianen Schall,
mit der Flöten sanften Ton
lobet Jesum, Gottes Sohn.

Die Regalen blasen auf,
spielen süße Lieder drauf.
Setz die Zinken an den Mund,
lobe Jesum alle Stund.

Rühren nicht die Vögelein
morgens früh ihr Züngelein?
So geschwind der Tag anbricht,
lassen sie das Danken nicht.

In des Tages letzter Stund
aus dem wassertiefen Grund
spielen all die Vögelein
und dem Schöpfer dankbar sein.

Alles Wild auf grüner Heid,
wenn es geht auf seiner Weid,
so vertraut es seinem Gott,
der versorget seine Not.

Mensch, o Mensch, du Gottes Bild!
Warum zeigst du dich so wild?
Sorgest nur dein Leben lang
vor die Kleider, Speis und Trank?

Denke doch an jenen Tag,
da man ewig leben mag,
mit den Kleidern angetan,
die niemand zureißen kann.

Dieser Kleider schönste Zier
schenket Jesus dir und mir,
um zu stehn für Gottes Thron,
wenn erscheint des Menschen Sohn.

English.png English translation

My spirit doth rejoice,
Jesu, when I do think on thee,
My heart and humour are cast down,
Sweet babe, O heaven's zeal.

Whenas my Jesu I do see
And in affection lie,
So doth my blood its motion take,
Sweet Jesus, from thy good.

All music that upon the earth
Sweet harmony to men doth bring,
The lutes, the harps, the cymbals loud
And violins their thanks to thee do sound.

The sackbut and the loud trumpet,
The sweet-toned dulcian,
With the soft recorder's sound
Praise Jesus, God's own son.

The humming regal bears its part
As choirs sweetly sing;
Raise now the cornett to your lips
Praise Jesu morn and night.

Do not the little birds each dawn
So brightly wag their tongues?
As day doth break
Their daily grace they sing.

And at the last hour of the day
From out the deepest shades,
All the winged songsters play,
And thanks unto their Maker give.

And all the creatures, great and small,
That on the heath do graze,
Do put their trust always in God,
Who looketh to their need.

But Man, oh, Man, thou image of God!
Why art thou still untamed?
Why all thy life hast thou no care
But for apparel, meat and drink?

Think then upon that day
When Man shall live eternally,
Clad in those robes
That never can be torn.

The brightest glory of these robes
To thee and me Jesus doth give,
That we may stand before God's throne
To see the Son of Man appear.
