Description: A new mass setting composed along traditional musical styles of the 18-19th centuries. This Missa Solemnis is intended as a Penitential Mass (Missa Solemnis Penitentialis); its suggested use is Passion Sunday (without the Gloria), or in full on other appropriate occasions such as memorial Masses, All Saints/All Souls, etc.

To better accommodate both Anglo-Catholic and Roman Catholic tradition and rubrics, this Mass offers two versions of the Gloria and Credo. For EF/Tridentine Masses in the Catholic Church the Gloria and Credo must be intoned by the Celebrant. Accordingly, these two movements are provided in a second version with intonations for the Celebrant.

May be used as Requiem Mass using the secondary setting of the Agnus Dei. The remaining portions (Dies irae, etc.) of the Requiem may be filled in with appropriate polyphonic or chant pieces.

  • UPDATE NOTE Both Glorias and Credos, and Benedictus updated 2/4/09 to reflect some spelling and punctuation errors in text.
