Doddridge 1739-1745

1. O God of Bethel, by whose hand
Thine Israel still is fed
Who through this weary pilgrimage
Hast all our Fathers led

2. To thee our humble vows we raise
To thee address our prayer
And in thy kind and faithful breast
Deposit all our care.

3. If thou through each perplexing path
Wilt be our constant guide
If thou wilt daily bread supply
And raiment wilt provide,

4. If thou wilt spread thy shield around
Till these our wanderings cease,
And at our Father's loved abode
Our souls arrive in peace,

5. To thee as to our covenant God
We'll our whole selves resign
And count that not our tenth alone
But all we have is thine.

Doddridge 1755, Hymn 4

1. O God of Jacob, by whose hand
Thine Israel still is fed,
Who through this weary pilgrimage
Hast all our fathers led.

2. To thee our humble vows we raise,
To thee address our prayer,
And in thy kind and faithful breast
Deposit all our care.

3. If thou, through each perplexing oath,
Wilt be our constant guide;
If thou wilt daily bread supply,
And raiment wilt provide;

4. If thou wilt spread thy shield around,
Till these our wanderings cease,
And at our Father's loved abode
Our souls arrive in peace,

5. To thee, as to our covenant God,
We'll our whole selves resign;
And count, that not our tenth alone,
But all we have is thine.

1  O God of Bethel, by whose hand
Thy people still are fed;
Who through this weary pilgrimage
Hast all our fathers led:

2  Our vows and prayers we now present
Before thy throne of grace:
God of our fathers! be the God
Of their succeeding race.

3  Through each perplexing path of life
Our wandering footsteps guide;
Give us each day our daily bread,
And raiment fit provide.

4  O spread thy covering wings around,
Till all our strivings cease,
And at our Father's loved abode
Our souls arrive in peace.

5  All praise to God the Father be,
All praise to thee, O Son,
All praise, O Holy Ghost, to thee,
While endless ages run.
