Talk:God be in my head (Henry Walford Davies)

H Walford Davies died in 1944, I believe. His music therefore remains copyright in the EU and elsewhere until 1st January 2012.

Having said that, "God be in my head" is in several hymn books and action against infringers would probably not be taken.

Published 1910. US Copyright renewed 1928 for 47 yrs. Copyright law in US gave automatic 20 yr extension: 47 + 20 = 67; + 1938, Public Domain in USA in 2005. -Paul Marchesano Marchesa 07:26, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't it then be 1928 + 47 + 20 = PD in 1995? —Carlos Email.gif 11:46, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
If it was published in 1910 and renewed in 1928 as indicated, then the calculation by Carlos makes sense to me. Regardless of whether it was renewed in 1928 for 47+20 years or renewed in 1938 for the same durations, it sounds like it would still be out of copyright under U.S.A. law (see, e.g. the Cornell Copyright summary), and therefore something CPDL can continue hosting. If a copyright holder feels the user-supplied information is not correct, they can alert us via the mechanism posted on this help page. -- Vaarky 16:40, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I just wanted to indicate to CPDL users in the EU (and any other places that have the "70 years after death" rule) that they risk copyright infringement if they reproduce this work from CPDL. It is available at http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/027022/details.html (creditted to Novello). It is marked "Copyright revived 1996" at Hymns Old and New No. 166 (creditted to OUP). I have no comment on other juristictions nor on whether CPDL should continue to host it, though I do think a note that it may not be public domain everywhere should be added.
HWD in fact died in 1941 so copyright would persist, by the 70 year rule, until Jan 2012. He was born 6th September 1869 so it is coming up to his 140th birthday.

I've added a note that countries may vary. --Vaarky 20:42, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia, Walford Davies died more than 70 years ago, so should the warning be removed? Francishemingway 12:41, 26 May 2011 (CDT)
