Hi Routcla0,

I notice you've contributed MIDI files and texts-and-translations recently - is there any chance you can also add printable sheet music of the works? PDF is the preferred format, though some scores are available as PostScript, GIF or JPG images, or notation files such Sibelius, Finale, Encore, etc. MIDI is unfortunately a very inadequate substitute for legibly-formatted sheet music.

Also, you probably should not be marking the request for the "Seven Last Words" by Théodore Dubois as "completed". When uploading music to CPDL, there are two operations to carry out: first, the "Upload file" link in the left hand column under "toolbox", in order to submit files as you have done; second, you also need to click on the "Add scores to CPDL" link under the "navigation" heading. This brings up a page explaining the remaining steps to generate a Wiki page for your music. If you would prefer me to Wiki-fy the pages, just let me know - I hope you don't mind that I've already tweaked the page you created for Théodore Dubois.

Dear Philip,

I posted the MIDI files only because I do believe that the publishing house has copyrights on the score. I did not retype the Seven Last Words completely, and even then I am not sure I would be allowed to do so and then publish the pages here. If anyone knows for a fact what can be done and not, I would be insterested.

If NOT providing a pdf format of the score means it's not completed, then I will delete the indication that it is. I sure didn't want to mislead anyone here.

Comments and reactions are welcome at claude_routhier@yahoo.ca

Hi Claude,

you're very good to be circumspect. There are a number of copyright discussions on the CPDL forums - if I may point you to the most recent of these here, you should see a posting from Peter Gibson several messages down, indicating five possible categories of copyright applicable to an edition: of these, the first, third and fourth categories would definitely have expired, and since you have a copy of the music and I don't, you would be in a better position to judge whether the second or fifth categories are still in force or not. Some 19th century works are occasionally re-edited afresh for modern publication, which definitely allows copyrights of both these types to be enforceable.

Since CPDL exists to provide sheet music free from these sorts of copyright issues, I would consider the request for the Dubois work incomplete - singers need to have sheet music at hand to make the MIDI files useful.
