Life

Born: 25 June 1860 in Dieuze (Lorrain)

Died:18 February1956, Paris

Biography

A student of Jules Massenet, Gustave Charpentier won the prix de Rome with Didon in 1887. His reputation rests on the opera Louise (1900). Vocal works include mélodies and oratorios, almost all written before 1913.
