Italian text
Amor tien il suo Regno
Nel viso di costei colmo si sdegno;
Tal che sdegno ed Amor amici sono,
E l'uno è fatto a l'altro sede e trono.
E tal tregua fatto anno
Per farmi oltraggio, ed arrecarmi danno,
Ond'or tra loro più non fan contesa;
Ma congiurati sono à farmi offesa.
E quindi avien ch'io sento,
Sempre doppio martir, doppio tormento;
Ne so, se quel ardor che mi disface,
Sia di sdegnosa, ò d'amorosa face.
Ma forse Amor dimora
Col sdegno per pietade, acciò non mora;
Che se solo io io vedessi una sol volta,
Fuggiria l'alma in un susipir accolta.
