Ancor che col partire
io mi sento morire,
partir vorrei ogn' hor, ogni momento:

So süß ist mein Wiederkehren.}}

Although when I part from you
it is a kind of dying,
I would be glad to leave you every hour, every moment,
so great is my joy

I would that I could part from you:
for so my heart leaps when we are reunited.

Bien que de partir
Je me sente mourir,

Editor: Pothárn Imre (submitted 2024-03-13).   Score information: A4, 2 pages, 62 kB   Copyright: CPDL
Edition notes: Transcribed from first edition of 1547. Original key (chiavi naturali) and note values. We only changed Anchor to ancor.
I consulted three editions (all by Antonio Gardano): Perissone Primo libro 1547, Madrigali della fama 1548 and Rore's Primo libro the 1569 reprint. They all differ in minor details. The most important is in measures 27 and 38, where the Bass imitates the Cantus, but the 1547 print has F natural, whereas the later editions have F sharp. Gardano's 1548 edition also adds sharp signs to the F natural in the Bass in measures 11 and 13, which are cancelled in later editions, but not those in 27 and 38. The cadences are also somewhat different in the Canto in measures 17 and 40. The copy of this madrigal in the new Lassus complete edition on IMSLP (it is printed there since Lassus composed a parody Magnificat on this madrigal) gives the 1547 first print, without even ficta signs in measures 27 and 38.
