Biography

Little is known about Montalbano's life. After being ordained in 1619, he got his musical education in the Franciscan monastery in Bologna. From 1629, he worked as a Kapellmeister in Palermo and from 1642 until his death, he held the same position at the San Francesco in Bologna. Montalbano is considered one of the founders of modern violin technique for scoring sinfonias for a violin tuned in fifths
