“Born of the Father’s love from eternity.”
God is here? Yet he seems so small!
Poets of old could sing
with such certainty:
This little child brings salvation for all.
Find in this human birth
Witness to heav’n on earth?
But how can a baby provide any clue
As to how we should live or what we should do?

Held in his mother’s arms; no activity.
Total dependence on human care.
Helpless he lies quite still,
What passivity!
Dressed in whatever she finds him to wear.
Want to be born again?
What has to happen then?
Let go of ev’ry thing!
Once more you must
Be an innocent child who is ready to trust.

Confident we assume in our vanity
What we should long for is ours to decide.
Hoping to live the dream,
What insanity!
While we’re ignoring our very best guide.
All of love’s A B C
shown for us all to see.
Here life’s whole secret may be overheard.

Find in this tiny child’s immaturity
Lessons to learn about how we should live.
Born as his Father’s son in obscurity,
It’s the same Spirit that both of them give.
All we need, A to Z
Giv’n in this manger bed.
All of life’s alphabet spelt out quite clear
By this innocent child who lies silently here.

Of the Father’s love begotten,
ere the worlds began to be.
He is Alpha and Omega,
He the source, the endig he,
Of the things that are, that have been,
And that future years shall see,
Evermore and evermore.

Glory to God on high, to infinity.
Join with the angels and sing God’s praise.
Father, Son, Spirit name Holy Trinity.
Tell all God’s people his wonderful ways.
Carols at Christmas sing:
Good news for all we bring,
Honouring Jesus, the Christ, who was born
Just a powerless baby on Christmas morn.

O ye heights of heav’n adore him;
Angel hosts, his praises sing;
Pow’rs, dominions bow before him,
And extol our God and King:
Let no tongue on earth be silent,
ev’ry voice in concert ring,
Evermore and evermore.
