English text
By the waters of Babylon,
there we sat down and wept,
when we remembered Zion.
As for our harps, we hanged them up:
upon the trees that are therein:
For there they that led us away captive,
required of us melody and song:
They that despoiled us called on us for mirth,
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
How can we sing the Lord's song?
in the land of our captivity?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand be withered away:
By the waters of Babylon,
there we remembered Zion.
