Biography

Elisha West was born in North Yarmouth, Maine, and baptised there on 25 April 1756. He married Abigail Delano in North Yarmouth on 7 December 1775, and by 1790 they had moved to Woodstock, Vermont. The first edition of West's collection The Musical Concert was published in January 1802, and consists of 54 items. An revised second edition, consisting of 65 items, was published in 1807: 18 of the tunes in this edition are attributed to J. West, probably a relative of the compiler. Both editions were printed at Northampton, Massachusetts by Andrew Wright. In later years, West appears to have stopped composing and returned to Maine.
