Biography

Elizabeth Scott was an English hymn-writer. The daughter of Thomas Scott, an independent minister of Hitchin and Norwich, she appears to have written her hymns before 1750. In 1751 she married Elisha Williams (formerly Rector of Yale College), and moved to Connecticut. Williams died in 1755, and Elizabeth married the Hon. William Smith of New York, who predeceased her. She died at Wethersfield, Connecticut.
