English.png English translation

While hoping, I in endless languor pine,
While pining, from despair I wait to die.
If I show love, you are to me malign,
While he who hates you, you do satisfy.
So on a stranger choice must I rely:
Do as my duty calls and show you scorn,
And be, without you, of all love forlorn,
To have your love and my desire thereby.
