- Fair Phyllis I saw sitting all alone
- Feeding her flock near to the mountainside.
- The shepherds knew not whither she was gone,
- But after her lover Amyntas hied.
- Up and down he wandered whilst she was missing;
- When he found her, O then they fell a kissing.
Dutch translation
- Een klein pareltje met de klank van kristal. Jan Wyns.
- Helemaal alleen zag ik daar Fair Phyllis zitten
- Terwijl ze haar kudde weide bij de heuvelrug.
- De herders wisten niet waarheen ze was gegaan,
- En zij haastte zich achter haar lief Amyntas aan.
- Hij zwierf in alle richtingen terwijl ze weg was;
- En toen hij haar vond, O, begonnen ze te kussen.
German translation
- Fair Phyllis sah ich bei der Felsenwand
- hüten die Herde einsam und allein.
- Die Hirten suchten, wo sie sich befand,
- doch hinter der treuen Gefährtin drein
- eilt' der Hirt Amyntas, der sie vermisste.
- Als er sie fand, o wie er sie dann küsste!
