Was a vicar choral and organist at Ely cathedral in 1579. Possibly the son of Thomas Barcrofte, who was said the be the organist at Ely in 1535. A Te Deum and Benedictus in F were attributed to the latter (dated 1532) in Tudway's MS collection. However, as this is far too early a date for an English setting of these canticles, it is more likely that they were composed by George Barcrofte. He may also be the father of Georgius Barcrofte, who was appointed master of the choristers at Ely in 1610. (Source: A dictionary of music and musicians; vol 1)
