Description: Hoquetus David is normally treated as an instrumental work, although I have encountered one a cappella vocal recording. Its name is derived from the underlying melodic line: the embellishment on the name of 'David' from the 'Alleluia Nativitas' ascribed to Perotin (an alleluia for the nativity of the Virgin Mary, incidentally). The tenor contains four statements of the melody, treated isorhythmically.
