Horch! Wie übers Wasser hallend
klar die Vesperhymne klingt!
Näher jetzt und näher schallend,
ferner jetzt und ferner hallend,
bis sie sanft dem Ohr verklingt.
Jubilate amen.
Jetzt wie Mondschein Wellen rollend
an das Ufer stirbt sie dahin.
Jetzt, wie zorn'ge Brandung,
grollend wächst die Flut des Liedes kühn.
Horch! Wieder horch, wieder horch,
wie sie sanft dem Ohr verklingt!
Wie Wellen rollend an das Ufer
stirbt sie hin, jubilate amen.
