Edition notes: The alto part is printed in the source in the treble clef an octave above sounding pitch. Only the first verse of the text given here (verse 8 of Sternhold's Ps. 16) is printed in the source: the subsequent verses have been added editorially. The original time signature is retorted time. The following notes are printed in the source as small grace notes, and have been written out in full in this edition: bar 7, beat 1, alto E and tenor C; bar 11, beat 2, tenor F; bar 12, beat 1, tenor E; bar 17, tenor notes given here as semiquavers. The soprano note on beat 1 of bar 7, given here as a G, is printed in the source as the B a third higher.
