German text
1. Im Garten leidet Christus Not
Den Vater bitt', ringt mit dem Tod
Sein blutig Schweiß auf Erden fällt
Den Feinden er sich willig stellt
Siehe, das ist Gottes Lamm
Aller Welt Sünd' macht ihm bang.
Sünd und Straf zugleich es trägt.
Selig ist wer's herzlich glaubt.
2. Der Herr mit seinen Jüngern saß,
das Osterlamm zum letzten aß
da stift' er uns sein Leib und Blut
in Speis und Trank, meints herzlich gut.
Siehe, das ist Gottes Lamm...
English translation
1. In the garden Christ is suffering
begging to his Father in mortal agony
His sanguineous sweat is is falling to the ground
He faces up to the enemies willingly
Behold the Lamb of God
The sin of the world troubles him.
Sin and punishment he is carrying.
Blessed is he who believes.
2. The Lord was sitting with his disciples,
eating the Paschal Lamb
There he gave us his body and blood
as food and drink, meaning it well.
Behold the Lamb of God...
