English text
In the day-spring of youth, and the dawn of emotion,
When love in its freshness breathed first o’er thy heart,
Thou hast felt the pure joy in its dearest devotion,
Thou hast felt the pure thrill it but once can impart.
Such joy, the reward of the just, will be given,
Such love, to blest souls, in the fields of their rest:
As chaste and as pure as the dew-drop of heaven,
When it gems in the morning the chaste lily’s breast.
If the bosom, while here, glow with rapture so bright,
And earth can produce an emotion like this;
What a multiplied sum of ecstatic delight
When its fulness is felt for each spirit in bliss.
