English translation
We, who mystically represent the Cherubim,
And chant the thrice-holy hymn to the Life-giving Trinity,
Let us set aside the cares of life. Amin.
That we may receive the King of all,
Who comes invisibly escorted by the Divine Hosts. Alliluya
Usage:
The Cherubic Hymn is part of the Orthodox Divine Liturgy, the equivalent of the Western Mass.
It is sung during the so-called "Great Entrance", whent the priest carries the gifts of bread and
wine into the church from behind the iconostasis.
The first stanzas are usually sung in a majestic, slow tempo. After the intercessions by the priest(s), the choir responds with "Amin" and takes the final verse at a much quicker pace.
