Biography
José Tomás Uruñuela was a Basque musician and dance teacher. He was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz and in 1916 graduated in Chemistry from the Universidad Central, in Madrid. He returned to his hometown and in 1919 was nominated counselor of the Escuela de Artes y Oficios.
His musical interest brought him in contact with other Basque musicians and musicologists of the time, such as Father Donostia. By 1926, a couple of his compositions had been published. These featured lyrics in Basque, and some were based on traditional melodies, to which he added skillful harmonizations.
