Biography

In his childhood he sang in a boy's choir at the Týn Temple under the direction of Albín Maska . He received his music education at Jan Pavlis Military Music School . From 1870 to 1872 he attended the Varhanic School in Prague . He became the director of the bark(?) and the city bandmaster in Hustopeče in Moravia and from 1875 he was director of the bark in Nymburk . He contributed his articles to Czech newspapers and magazines.

In 1877 he left for Croatia and worked as a bishop's band in Senj . He was choirmaster of the Nehaj Song Choir and he was very much a part of the promotion of Czech music. In 1883 he returned to Prague and, until his death, he ran a music school.

He was an extremely productive composer. He has composed 287 original compositions, and has produced 150 other adaptations of national songs and works by other composers. It was focused on lighter genres, such as operetta, singing farce and salon music. He also composed classical music and music for church purposes. He was also a good music teacher. He published singing schools and violin plays.

He died in Prague's poverty camp on October 21, 1911 . (This is a literal translation from the Czech Wikipedia site.)
