<poem>
L’hiver qui nous tourmente
S’obstine à nous geler
Nous ne saurions parler
Qu’avec une voix tremblante

La neige et les glaçons
Nous donnent de mortels frissons.

Les frimas se répandent
Sur nos corps languissants
Le froid transit nos sens
Les plus durs rochers se fendent.

Title: Le Choeur des Trembleurs
Larger work: Isis, LWV 54 Composer: Jean-Baptiste Lully

Number of voices: 3vv   Voicing: TTB

Genre: SecularOpera

Language: French
Instruments: 5-part String ensemble
Published: 1677

Description: A transcription of the opening chorus from Lully's opera "Isis." Modelled closely on a source from the IMSLP, but transcribed for modern string notation with keyboard reduction. The text should be sung in such a way that the vowels are re-articulated for repeated eighth notes, resembling stuttering from extreme cold. Original orchestration would include string ensemble, harpsichord (basso continuo), and soft wind instruments.
