English translation
singing translation by Isabella G Parker (for the soprano and piano version)
The leaves on the green boughs gently are swinging,
op'ning silently
The bells with their music airily ringing
'Neath the smiling sky
Slowly breathing like an anthem of warning
Afar through the air
Bringing mem'ry sweet of lilies adorning
Holy altar fair
Those bells tell of happy years now o'ershaded
And with solemn tone
Once more they refresh the leaves that are faded,
The years that are gone.
English translation singing translation by David Solomons (for the SSATBB and soloist version)
The leaves unfurled on branches
so lightly delicate and soft.
The bells rang out so light
and free in the cloudless sky.
Rhythmical and fervent a distant call
like the anthems of old
Called to mind the pure white
lilies on holy altar's sacrifice.
Those bells spoke to me
of happier times now gone
And in the great wood
they seemed to revive the faded leaves
of days long since passed.
