Biography

An influential Italian music theorist and composer, and one of the first theorists to fully explore the possibilities of chromaticism and enharmonicism. He published extensive treatise on the subject in 1555, which included several example compositions in the chromatic and enharmonic genera. The enharmonic works in particular utilized an unprecedented microtonal tuning system.
