Latin text
O lux beata Trinitas
Et principalis Unitas,
Iam sol recedit igneus,
Infunde lumen cordibus.
Te mane laudum carmine,
Te deprecemur vesperi,
Te nostra supplex gloria,
Per cuncta laudet saecula.
Christum rogamus et Patrem,
Christi Patrisque Spiritum:
unum potens per omnia,
fove precantes, Trinitas.
English translation
Translation supplied by Paul Pascal, Professor Emeritus of Classics, University of Washington
O blessed light, the Trinity,
And the primal Unity:
Now the fiery sun is setting.
Pour light upon our hearts.
To you in the morning with a song of praises,
To you let us pray in the evening.
You may our humble glory
Praise through all the ages.
Christ we ask, and the Father
Of Christ, and of the Father the Spirit,
A Unity with power over all things:
be favorable to those who are praying, O Trinity.
Note: The last stanza in the above version is not the regular one, but rather has been substituted for the regular one. The poem usually ends: "Deo Patri sit gloria, / Eiusque soli Filio, / Cum Spiritu Paracleto / Et nunc et in perpetuum." This can be translated, "To God the Father be the glory, / And to his only Son, / With the Spirit, the Comforter, / Both now and forever."
