Italian text Perchè fuggi, anima mia, Da chi t’ama e ti desia? La cagion saper vorrei Che t’ascondi agli occhi miei. S’io te seguo per amore, Perchè darmi ognor dolore? La cagion saper vorrei Degli affanni e pianti miei. Resta tanto che tu senti Le mie doglie e i miei tormenti Forse te ne pentirai Di fuggirmi e darmi guai.

English translation Why do you flee, my beloved, From the man who loves and desires you? Please tell me why You hide yourself from my eyes. If I pursue you for love, Why do you constantly bring me sorrow? Please tell me the reason For my troubles and laments.
