Pour desbaucher par un doux stille
Quelque fille de bon maintien
Point ne faut de vielle subtile;
Frere Lubin le fera bien.
Il presche en theologien;
Mais pour boire de belle eau claire,
Faictes la boire à vostre chien,
Frere Lubin ne le peut faire.
English translation
by Mick Swithinbank
Debauching with his silver tongue
some well-bred maiden, comely, young,
Friar Lubin knows the score,
a whited sepulchre for sure.
A goodly sermon he can preach
and other people’s conscience reach,
but drink fresh water? He demurs:
he thinks it only fit for curs.
