Pour mettre comme un homme habile
Le bien d'autruy avec le sien
Et vous laisser sans croix ne pille,
Frere Lubin le fera bien.
On a beau dire: je le tien
Et le presser de satisfaire,
Jamais ne vous en rendra rien.
Frere Lubin ne le peut faire.

Translation by Mick Swithinbank
Cunning as Friar Lubin is,
he thinks that others’ goods are his.
He will leave you truly fleeced
while he goes away to feast.
In vain you’ll tell him what he owes:
the fact is, he already knows.
No matter how you beg or pray,
his debts he never will repay.
