In the eyes of the oxen,
it was just another birth in the barn,
A young thing that squalled and suckled, and slept,
Pro nobis puer natus est.

In the eyes of the shepherds
it was a wonder told by angels,
an image seared into their fearful minds,
Pro nobis puer natus est.

In the eyes of the magi,
it was the climax of their starled quest,
a royal child housed in a squalid shed,
Pro nobis puer natus est.

In the eyes of his mother,
he was perfection born, lying in her arms,
her King of kings her soul, her joy, her life,
Pro nobis puer natus est.
