1  In finem. Filiis Core ad intellectum.

2  Deus, auribus nostris audivimus, patres nostri annuntiaverunt nobis, opus quod operatus es in diebus eorum, et in diebus antiquis.

3  Manus tua gentes disperdidit, et plantasti eos; afflixisti populos, et expulisti eos.

4  Nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram, et brachium eorum non salvavit eos: sed dextera tua et brachium tuum, et illuminatio vultus tui, quoniam complacuisti in eis.

5  Tu es ipsi rex meus et Deus meus, qui mandas salutes Jacob.

6  In te inimicos nostros ventilabimus cornu, et in nomine tuo spernemus insurgentes in nobis.

7  Non enim in arcu meo sperabo, et gladius meus non salvabit me:

8  salvasti enim nos de affligentibus nos, et odientes nos confudisti.

9  In Deo laudabimur tota die, et in nomine tuo confitebimur in saeculum.

10  Nunc autem repulisti et confudisti nos, et non egredieris, Deus, in virtutibus nostris.

11  Avertisti nos retrorsum post inimicis nostros, et qui oderunt nos, diripiebant sibi.

12  Dedisti nos tamquam oves escarum, et in gentibus dispersisti nos.

13  Vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio, et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus eorum.

14  Posuisti nos opprobrium vicinis nostris; subsannationem et derisum his qui sunt in circuitu nostro.

15  Posuisti nos in similitudinem gentibus; commotionem capitis in populis.

16  Tota die verecundia mea contra me est, et confusio faciei meae cooperuit me:

17  a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis, a facie inimici et persequentis.

18  Haec omnia venerunt super nos; nec obliti sumus te, et inique non egimus in testamento tuo.

19  Et non recessit retro cor nostrum; et declinasti semitas nostras a via tua:

20  quoniam humiliasti nos in loco afflictionis, et cooperuit nos umbra mortis.

21  Si obliti sumus nomen Dei nostri, et si expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum,

22  nonne Deus requiret ista? ipse enim novit abscondita cordis. Quoniam propter te mortificamur tota die; aestimati sumus sicut oves occisionis.

23  Exsurge; quare obdormis, Domine? exsurge, et ne repellas in finem.

24  Quare faciem tuam avertis? oblivisceris inopiae nostrae et tribulationis nostrae?

25  Quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra; conglutinatus est in terra venter noster.

26  Exsurge, Domine, adjuva nos, et redime nos propter nomen tuam.

1  We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us : what thou hast done in their time of old;

2  How thou hast driven out the heathen with thy hand, and planted them in : how thou hast destroyed the nations and cast them out.

3  For they gat not the land in possession through their own sword : neither was it their own arm that helped them;

4  But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance : because thou hadst a favour unto them.

5  Thou art my King, O God : send help unto Jacob.

6  Through thee will we overthrow our enemies : and in thy Name will we tread them under, that rise up against us.

7  For I will not trust in my bow : it is not my sword that shall help me;

8  But it is thou that savest us from our enemies : and puttest them to confusion that hate us.

9  We make our boast of God all day long : and will praise thy Name for ever.

10  But now thou art far off, and puttest us to confusion : and goest not forth with our armies.

11  Thou makest us to turn our backs upon our enemies : so that they which hate us spoil our goods.

12  Thou lettest us be eaten up like sheep : and hast scattered us among the heathen.

13  Thou sellest thy people for nought : and takest no money for them.

14  Thou makest us to be rebuked of our neighbours : to be laughed to scorn, and had in derision of them that are round about us.

15  Thou makest us to be a by-word among the heathen : and that the people shake their heads at us.

16  My confusion is daily before me : and the shame of my face hath covered me;

17  For the voice of the slanderer and blasphemer : for the enemy and avenger.

18  And though all this be come upon us, yet do we not forget thee : nor behave ourselves frowardly in thy covenant.

19  Our heart is not turned back : neither our steps gone out of thy way;

20  No, not when thou hast smitten us into the place of dragons : and covered us with the shadow of death.

21  If we have forgotten the Name of our God, and holden up our hands to any strange god : shall not God search it out? for he knoweth the very secrets of the heart.

22  For thy sake also are we killed all the day long : and are counted as sheep appointed to be slain.

23  Up, Lord, why sleepest thou : awake, and be not absent from us for ever.

24  Wherefore hidest thou thy face : and forgettest our misery and trouble?

25  For our soul is brought low, even unto the dust : our belly cleaveth unto the ground.

26  Arise, and help us : and deliver us for thy mercy's sake

Hungarian translation

Isten! füleinkkel hallottuk, atyáink adták hirűl nekünk a cselekvényt, melyet cselekedtél az ő napjaikban, a régi napokban.
A te kezed szórta szét a nemzeteket, és átültetted őket; megsanyargattad a népeket, és kiűzted őket.
Mert nem kardjok által bírták a földet, és nem karjok szabadította meg őket, hanem a te jobbod és karod és orczád világossága, mert kedvelted őket.
Te magad vagy az én királyom és Istenem, ki Jákobnak segítséget küldesz.
Teáltalad ellenségeinket szarvakkal ide s tova hányjuk, és a te neved által megvetjük a ránk támadókat.
Mert nem kézijamban bizom, és nem kardom szabadít meg engem:
hanem te szabadítasz meg minket sanyargatóinktól, és megszégyeníted, kik minket gyűlölnek.
Az Istenben dicsekedünk egész nap, és a te nevednek hálát adunk mindörökké.

Ár nélkül adtad el népedet, és nem volt sokaság eladatásán.
Gyalázatra adtál minket szomszédinknak, csúfra és nevetségre azoknak, kik köröttünk vannak.
Közmondássá tettél minket a pogányoknál, főcsóválásra a népek közé.
Naponkint előttem van gyalázatom, és orczám pirúlása elborít engem,

nem veszi-e számon Isten ezeket? miután ő tudja a szivek titkait. Mert éretted öldököltetünk naponkint, és úgy tartatunk, mint a megölni való juhok.
Kelj föl, miért alszol el? Uram! kelj föl és ne vess el mindvégig.
Miért fordítod el orczádat, elfeledkezel szegénységünkről és szorongattatásunkról?
Mert lealáztatott lelkünk a porba; és hasunk a földhöz ragadott.
Kelj föl, Uram! segíts meg minket, és szabadíts meg minket a te nevedért.
