Life

Born: London, 1963

Biography Educated at The Skinners' School, Tunbridge Wells, Richard studied organ with Leonard Lazell FRCO GTCL. In 1979 he became an apprentice pipe organ builder & tuner, with Wm. Hill & Son and Norman & Beard Ltd. Since 1984 has continued to work as a pipe organ tuner/repairer in the south-east of England. Became Musical Director of Tunbridge Wells Mixed Voice Choir, 1993-6, organist of St Peter, Pembury and later Director of Music, a post relinquished in 2010 after 18 years' service.. Sings bass with The Chancel Singers (1990-1999 and 2006-)and with The Gregorian Singers, which led to performances in the French Cathedrals of Chartres, Rheims and Rouen and collaborated with Finchcocks Baroque under Steven Devine. Recently joined a new chamber choir, 1839 Consort based in Crowborough. His BCP Preces & Responses have been sung at Rochester Cathedral. The "Pepenbury Responses" have been widely used, with a recorded performance from the USA featuring on YouTube. One other work not available here, The Coventry Carol, is published by a leading UK church music publisher. The motet for the Feast of Candlemas, Hodie Beata Virgo Maria, has received considerable acclaim and has also attracted attention across the globe.
