Salve Regina is a votive antiphon, one of the four Breviary anthems of the Blessed Virgin Mary sung at the end of Compline. It is assigned to the season from the First Vespers of Trinity Sunday until None of the Saturday before Advent.

The traditional ascription to Hermannus Contractus (1013-54) is now rejected by scholars.

Salve Regina, Mater Misericordiae,
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, Salve!
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii [H]evae,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes,
In hac lacrimarum valle.
Eja ergo, Advocata nostra,
Illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
Nobis, post hoc exilium, ostende,
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Salut, Reine, mère de miséricorde;

Mutter der Barmherzigkeit;
unser Leben, unsere Wonne
und unsere Hoffnung, sei gegrüßt!
Zu dir rufen wir verbannte Kinder Evas;

vida, dulzura y esperanza nuestra. Dios te salve.
A ti llamamos, los desterrados hijos de Eva;
vuelve a nosotros esos tus ojos misericordiosos,
Oh clemente, oh piadosa, oh dulce Virgen María.

Hil dig, Dronning, barmhjertige moder.
i denne tåredal.
O du, vores advokat,
vend mod os dine barmhjertige øjne,
og vis os efter dette eksil Jesus,
den velsignede frugt fra dit skød.
O milde, o barmhjertige, o søde Jomfru Maria.

Üdvöz légy, Úrnőnk, irgalmasságnak asszonya!
Élet, édesség, reménycsillag, áldunk.
Most kérve kérlel Évának száműzött népe.
Hozzád sóhajtozunk, sírva és zokogva
siralmaink völgye mélyén.

Hallgass meg hát, égi közbenjárónk!
Kegyes Anyánk, két szemed áldott sugarát fordítsd ránk végre!
És Jézust mutasd nekünk, méhed szent gyümölcsét,
hogy őt e számkivetés múltán lássuk!
Ó áldott, ó drága, ó édes, szép Szűz Mária!

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
[Hail] our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve,
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this, our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

A Vós suspiramos, gemendo e chorando,
Neste vale de lágrimas.
Eia, pois, Advogada nossa,
Esses vossos olhos misericordiosos a nós volvei.
E depois deste desterro,
Nos mostrai Jesus, bendito fruto do vosso ventre.
Ó clemente, ó piedosa, ó doce Virgem Maria.

Witaj Królowo, Matko miłosierdzia,
życie, słodyczy i nadziejo nasza, witaj!
Do Ciebie wołamy wygnańcy Ewy;
a Jezusa błogosławiony owoc żywota Twojego,
po tym wygnaniu nam okaż.
O łaskawa, o litościwa, o słodka Panno Maryjo!

Dutch.png Dutch translation

Wees gegroet, koningin, moeder van barmhartigheid;
Tot u roepen wij, ballingen, kinderen van Eva;
tot u smeken wij, zuchtend en wenend
in dit dal van tranen.
Daarom dan, onze voorspreekster,
sla op ons uw barmhartige ogen;
en toon ons, na deze ballingschap,
Jezus de gezegende vrucht van uw schoot.
O goedertieren, o liefdevolle, o zoete maagd Maria.

Život náš i sladkosť a nádej naša, zdravas!
K Tebe voláme, hriešni synovia Evy
v tomo sĺz údolí stenajúci, plačúci.
A preto teda orodovnica naša ukáž nám
tie svoje premilosrdné oči
a nám Ježiša ktorý je požehnaný
plod života tvoho tam vo večnosti ukáž
Ó Milostivá a nad všetkých pobožná,
ó presladká Panna Matka božia Mária.

Virgin mother of the church,
Eternal gate of glory,
Be for us a refuge
Before the Father and the son,
O clement!

Clement, holy virgin,
Sweet virgin, O Mary,
Hear the prayers of all
Who piously cry to you,
O holy!

Pour out your prayers to your Son,
Crucified, wounded,
And scourged for us,
By thorns pierced, with gall for drink.

O sweet Mary, hail!
