Life
Born: 22 October 1746, Branford, Connecticut
Died: 5 June 1823, New Haven, Connecticut
Biography Simeon Jocelin was a composer, clock maker, engraver, and storekeeper. He settled in New Haven by the early 1780s. His son Simeon was a famous abolitionist and chairman of the Amistad committee, as portrayed in the 1997 film Amistad. The family name is spelled Jocelin in his publication and in Britton, Lowens, and Crawford (1990), but spelled Jocelyn in the Wikipedia articles about his sons Simeon and Nathaniel.
