So many tears of misery
have failed to move your heart
that wearied with your tyranny,
despairing I depart:

Yet think, at last relenting,
Lest pity come too late,
when, Love, the wrongs resenting,
no more your smiles await.

But, Oh! Regard with lenity
this proud presumptuous strain,
while frantic by your cruelty,
I dare to brave your chain:

Oh! Let thy heart consenting,
once more again be mine,
and I, with tears repenting,
for ever will be thine!
