Sotto l’ombroso speco
Comparve onde pastori, fauni e ninfe,
La coronaro e fra le pure linfe,
Dicean scherzando i pargoletti amori,
Viva la bella Dori.
English translation
Under the shady arbor
of flowers, dainty plants, and leafy boughs
by the murmuring waters Dori lingered,
who seemed to say “The Graces abide with me”.
In contrast I saw the heavens
with the pretty meadow where sat
the morning star;
but the divine and sparkling flame
appeared, wherefore by shepherds, fauns, and nymphs
was she crowned and mid the limpid waters
the little gods of love said, as they sported:
“Long live fair Dori!”.
waar de morgenster boven stond;
