Biography
Sir Stanley Marchant was born in London, was a gifted choirboy, won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, and trained at Oxford. He became a church and cathedral organist, holding positions at Kemsing Parish Church, Kent; Christ Church, Newgate Street, London; St Peter’s, Eaton Square; and St. Paul’s Cathedral. He taught at the RAM, was King Edward Professor of Music of the University of London, and Principal of the Royal Academy of Music. He died in London.
