General Information

Title: Stella celi (So ys emprentid)
Composer: Guillaume le Rouge

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: ATTB

Genre: SacredMotet

Language: Latin
Instruments: a cappella
Published:

Description: A contrafactum(?) (text added with differenti ink) transcribed from the Trent manuscript tr88. The notes' values and colourings are as in the manuscript. The time signature is missing in all the voices, the “tempus perfectum” has been assumed from the context, the perfect notes and rests are dotted and ties are used for notes’ values that cannot be exactly represented. The coloured notes are "hemiolæ". As final motet it would complete the Missa Soyez amprantiz. The notes' values within the ligaturæ are as follows: the left upstemmed notes are semibreves - the unstemmed notes are breves - the right downstemmed notes are longæ. The "musica ficta" suggestions are in the MIDI and MusicXML files.

Stella celi extirpavit
que lactavit dominum
mortis pestem quam plantavit
primus parens hominum

Ipsa stella nunc dignetur
sidera compescere
quorum bella plebem cedunt
dire mortis ulcere.
