Question: can the alto part be printed in treble (G) rather than octave-treble (G8) clef?

If you have Finale-2006, you can download and open the file and change the G-8vb clef to the G clef and print it out as requested. I believe that the reason for choosing the G-8vb clef over the G clef for many alto parts is to avoid excessive ledger lines, especially below the staff where they would impinge upon the text underlay. Unfortunately, very few singers can read the alto C clef (unless perhaps they are violists or professional trombonists), which is the ideal clef to use for alto voice parts. -- ChuckGiffen 13:30 CST, 13 January 2006
