Temer donna non dei,
ch'io scopr'altrui giamai gl'incendi miei
il mio rinchius' ardore.
Non vedrà, non saprà (non ch'altri) Amore.
Ardo, e sempr'arderò tacit' amante,
se pur tra fiamme tante
non s'apr'il petto, e fore
l'imagin tua non manifest' il core.

You should not fear, my lady,
that I will ever reveal to anyone my burning passion,
my hidden ardour.
Amor will not see it, nor know it either.
I burn, and will ever burn as a silent lover,
unless, surrounded by so many flames,
my chest opens up, and my heart
exposes your image to the outside.
