1  Twilight now is round us veiling
Every hill and tree,
Leaving stars above us sailing
On a silvery sea.
Hushed is every sound,
Night gathering round,
Nature reposes,
Every flower unseen
Awaits its queen;
Each bud uncloses.
Perfumes are wafted,
The lily bells are ringing
And to fairy music,
Insects are singing.
Twilight now is round us veiling
Every hill and tree,
Leaving stars above us sailing
On a silvery sea.

2  Now at every casement twinkling
Shines the taper's light,
All Madrid's guitars are tinkling
In the silent night.
Let my song inviting,
Thy heart delighting,
Bring thee to meet me,
See thy rival queen,
In silver sheen,
Rising to greet thee!
All is gay and joyful,
And full of gladness,
All but thy lover,
Here, alone in sadness.
Twilight now is round us veiling …
