Italian text Un dubbio verno, un instabil sereno, È vostra fama e poca nebbia il rompe, E'l gran tempo a gran nomi è gran veneno. Passan vostri trionfi e vostre pompe, Passan le signorie passano i regni, Ogni cosa mortal, Tempo interrompe. (Petrarch: Trionfo del Tempo, 109-114)

English translation Your fame is as a doubtful spring, an unstable serene day, and a little cloud breaks it, and great time is great venom to great names. Your triumphs and your pomp pass, lordships pass, kingdoms pass, Time interrupts each mortal thing.
