Un giorno a Pale sacro
In un bel prato ameno,
Concorsero i pastori l’Arcade ninfe,
Fauni, Silvan, Sileno,
Chi cantava chi a suono,
Movea lieta carole,
Chi di bella ghirlanda facea dono
Al suo ben al suo sole,
Quando con dolci accenti,
Il boscareccio stuol’e i pastori,
Cantaro et iterar le note i venti,
Viva la bella Dori.
English translation
On a day sacred to Pales,
in a beautiful pleasant meadow,
assembled the shepherds and Arcadian nymphs
of the forests, mountains, and clear waters,
fauns, Silvanus and Silenus.
Some sang, some to the sound
moved in joyful dance,
some offered fair garlands to their beloved,
to their sun, when, with sweet accents,
the woodland troop and the shepherds sang
and the winds echoed the sounds:
“Long live fair Dori!”
