== New edition not showing up / thanks for the redirect ==

== duplicate CPDL numbers ==
Hi Claude, thanks for the redirect on my user page (and for bumping my edition of [[As Vesta was from Latmos hill descending (Thomas Weelkes)|As Vesta was]] to the top of the page for chronological ordering--I'll be sure to do that next time).

Hi Claude,
I see my new edition listed when I view [[As Vesta was from Latmos hill descending (Thomas Weelkes)|As Vesta was]] while signed in, but not otherwise. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

CPDL No 23695 [[Magnificat I (Anonymous)]] and CPDL No 38837 [[Magnificat (Tr91) (Anonymous)]] appear at first glance to be identical, except for the introductory page. If one is deleted, is there a reason for picking one edition number over the other? All the best, [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] ([[User talk:Richard Mix|talk]]) 09:32, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
:Hi, Richard. Do you mean it is the same work? Better merge two editions on the same page, then. Even better ask the editor himself. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 11:02, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

== Dorico source files ==

Hi,

I uploaded a new edition of [[Full fathom five (Charles Wood)]], but my source file is in Steinberg Dorico format (.dorico), which doesn't appear to be supported yet... any chance of allowing this format. I also tried .xml for a Music XML file which also doesn't seem to be allowed.

Also, when adding the new edition I originally changed the capitalisation of the title, which created a new page. I think I've sorted it by adding again with the correct capitalisation, and editing the wrong one to be a REDIRECT to the correct one... but you might like to check it's all OK now - it certainly looks OK from the front end!
[[User:Tristanpye|Tristanpye]] ([[User talk:Tristanpye|talk]]) 17:17, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
:Hi, Tristan, thanks for your contributions to CPDL. I completed the redirect, deleting the old page with three capital letters. Didn't know about Dorico format. But for the XML one, please just "zip" it (or export it directly) into MXL format and it will be accepted (and encouraged) by CPDL. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 17:23, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
::Dorico is Steinberg's new score editor (written by the team that wrote Sibelius until Avid got rid of them) - it was only released a few weeks ago.
::Can I easily add file formats to the existing entry (how?), or do I need to upload a file separately and then edit the page source manually? [[User:Tristanpye|Tristanpye]] ([[User talk:Tristanpye|talk]]) 17:33, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
:::Speaking of a MXL (zipped XML) file, just click in the left panel, on "import a file" (under "Tools"). Then, on the work page, edit the 'Music files section', add, on the right of your PDF: <nowiki>[[Media:Charles_Wood_-_Full_Fathom_Five.mxl|{{XML}}]]</nowiki>. Thanks, [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 17:41, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

== Michael Haydn Te Deum ==

Hi,
Michael Haydn wrote several works with this title. I have changed the title of my edition of MH28 to include the MH28 number - but it doesn't show through in the main title. Can you fix?
Many thanks

== Legend (again) ==

Hi Claude, I have been working on Template:Legend again. See what you think about [[User:Bcjohnston523/Suggested Legend|these two suggestions]]. I worked on the one dated 2017-02-04, so you would have room for expansion, which seems to happen often. Feel free to use or discard as you see fit. Cheers — [[User:Bcjohnston523|Barry Johnston]] [[User talk:Bcjohnston523|(talk)]] 04:03, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
:Hi, Barry, well done! I like the table much and it fits the page width, right to the sponsors' column even on my iPad. You should perhaps delete the line between icons and software names. About increasing the number of icons, I don't see more icons needed for internal files. Regarding external ones, I'll add an "external NWCs" today but other occurrences are too few to deserve another icon in the legend. You should perhaps open a thread in the forums to get more advices, from admins and users. Friendly, [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 08:54, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
::Hi Claude, I will start the thread in forums. Thanks. But now I notice there's an extra "File" icon after every icon on every work page. — [[User:Bcjohnston523|Barry Johnston]] [[User talk:Bcjohnston523|(talk)]] 15:18, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
:::As I've just added {{extzip}} and, some time ago, {{Per}} and {{ExtPer}} (Personal Composer), I wonder if, with {{Pdf}} above and {{extpdf}} below, etc., we'll have two rows in almost every column, and a narrower table. ;-) [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 15:07, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
::::I will work on that. I wonder if it would be better if someone (maybe me) could write a more complex script for Template:Legend, so that the legend on a work page would include only those icons which appear on that page. I will give it a try, but I will need some help. — [[User:Bcjohnston523|Barry Johnston]] [[User talk:Bcjohnston523|(talk)]] 16:47, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

== SiteNotice ==

Hi Claude, could you please update the French translations in [[MediaWiki:Contribnotice/fr]] and [[MediaWiki:Visitornotice/fr]] to reflect the changes in their English counterparts? Thanks! —[[User:Carlos|Carlos]] [[User talk:Carlos|(talk)]] 03:50, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
:Thanks, Carlos. I saw these changes yesterday and didn't change anything because all the text is correct, congrats. But 1. the notice never appears in French, it's always in English, like the upper part of the left panel, not the lower part (Tools) that is displayed in French! 2. Even when I'm connected, it's the visitor's notice that is shown. See [[:File:Contribnotice.jpg|that screen capture]]. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 05:57, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
::That's strange! Maybe Max can shed some light on what is happening here. But I insist that the messages above require update, please compare them carefully with the English ones: [[MediaWiki:Contribnotice]] and [[MediaWiki:Visitornotice]]. —[[User:Carlos|Carlos]] [[User talk:Carlos|(talk)]] 19:32, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

== Palestrina - Dei mater alma ==
Cordialement [[User:Jkelecom|Jkelecom]] ([[User talk:Jkelecom|talk]]) 12:43, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

== Newbie, MuseScore ==

Hi Claude, thanks for your welcome. I have just put up Antonio Caldara's Miserere mei (it seems to be alright, but ....), Horror of horrors, CPDL would not accept .mscz files from MuseScore - changed from Noteworthy some time ago and I miss its simplicity of notation entry. Désolé, mais puisque la page était en anglais ... Merci pour votre accueil
[[User:Tiny Trouble|Tiny Trouble]] ([[User talk:Tiny Trouble|talk]]) 10:41, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
:Hi, Tony (or Andrew?), don't worry about .mscz files: they'll soon be accepted, so you may choose the central button that allows to upload mscz files anyway (or think that .mxl files can be opened by users of MuseScore and quite all other music edition softwares).
:I'm about to create your editor's page. Should it be entitled Andrew Thoday or Tony Tebby? [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 13:23, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
::It would probably be better as Andrew Thoday (= and rue the day... - et regretter le jour...). :::Merci pour les mods "@" et "MusicXML" (j'arriverai un de ces jours) et pour l'addition du renvoi vers Psaume 8. == Work Sorter ==
Hi Claude.Can you explain for me what this does?
[[User:Jamesgibb|Jamesgibb]] ([[User talk:Jamesgibb|talk]]) 18:03, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
:Yes, it's easy: the pages that have that template will appear in the lists (like [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Sheet_music Category:Sheet music]) according to the 'intelligent' sorting order: without grouping by definite or indefinite article (when at the beginning), that is, according to Wiki international rules. 'House', 'A house' and 'The house' are thus gathered. WorkSorter is for the works pages, NameSorter for the composers ones. == Pages not using SortWorks ==
Thanks!<br>
[[User:Maia.mcc|Maia.mcc]] ([[User talk:Maia.mcc|talk]]) 04:12, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
:You're welcome, Maïa! Recent changes are seen only when connected (logged in). But after a few hours, perhaps a day or so, they remain seeable by anybody.

Hi Claude,
:By the way, we use to add, as a source file, an MXL (compressed musicXML) file with each edition. The reason for that is to be more user-friendly for the users who don't have the same notation software as the editor. If they have a recent software, they can open such file, to adapt the pitch to their choir abilities, to make rehearsal files, etc. You may add any file to your edition clicking on 'Upload a file' in the left pane of any CPDL page, under 'Tools'. You'll also, next time, be able to add an MXL file in lieu of the Sibelius one through the AddWork form. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 06:45, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
I appreciate the concern you wrote on the [[Talk:Orlando di Lasso]] about the pages not using SortWorks. You wrote:
:" I hate, each morning, having to check if someone has added a new work and has forgotten to add it to the composer manual-list of works. List of problematic pages is [[User:Claude T/DPL queries/NotSortWorks|here]]."
Orlando di Lasso is off your list (at least until someone protests). Of the ones still on your list, the following are automated by dpl -- I can take care of these:
*Daniel Belknap
*Daniel Read
*Jacob French
*Oliver Holden
*Samuel Babcock
*Samuel Holyoke
*Stephen Jenks
*Timothy Swan
*William Billings
I wish I could take more off your list, I will do a few as I have time. I appreciate all you do. Thanks! — [[User:Bcjohnston523|Barry Johnston]] [[User talk:Bcjohnston523|(talk)]] 20:37, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
:My list shows only those pages that have no <nowiki>{{SortWorks}}</nowiki> at all. When it is used for a part of the works, like <nowiki>{{SortWorks|Sacred}}</nowiki>, like di Lasso's one, it is not shown in the list. But the manual part of the page can be incomplete. To be more precise, Max has implemented a template, <nowiki>{{Recent_additions}}</nowiki>, that EVER adds, on top of the composer page, the work-page title where a new EDITION has been added. But it is not added in due place and, above all, it creates superfluous duplicated line(s) when SortWorks is used and each time it is the second (or more) edition. And 'somebody' has to check the string "<nowiki>Recent_additions</nowiki>" from time to time, to delete the duplicates. Sincerely, I also do appreciate all what you do. == LinkText and larger works ==
== Michael Praetorius - Quem pastores laudavere a 4 ==

Hi Claude,
Hi Claude,

The LinkText template at [[Three Motets, Op. 69 (Felix Mendelssohn)]] is causing TextAutoList to add the '''Larger work''' page to text pages that already include Op. 69 No. 1,  Op. 69 No. 2 and Op. 69 No. 3. Do you have a better solution than mine? [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] ([[User talk:Richard Mix|talk]]) 15:14, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
there is an existing page of [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius)]], which first edition claims to be from [[Musae Sioniae, fünffter Theil (Michael Praetorius)]], but the page is not linked to this publication. The two other publications on this page are similar but different, and all three are not any version from "Musae Sioniae V". (In "Musae Sioniae" the numbers 88, 89 and 90 are "Quem pastores a 4", but with different extras).
:No, I reverted my edit. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 15:29, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

== MuseScore and link ==

Hi, and thanks for the welcome.

I finally got around to uploading my first score - long time user who has been wanting to give sth back and all that, you know. Of course I made lots of mistakes, and have some questions, such as:

1. I did not follow the guidelines for file naming, but couldn't find a way to rename the files.

2. I uploaded a MuseScore version of the file as well, and although MuseScore is now in the list of formats in the dropdown on the file upload page, it came out as a text link with the full file name. I changed that to read MuseScore instead - is that ok? Or should I just wait for an admin to do whatever needs to be done?

3. Should I include an xml file as well? (I guess I should, eh? Silly question - disregard)
[[User:Eyolf|Eyolf]] ([[User talk:Eyolf|talk]]) 19:33, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
:Hi, Eyolf. A warmful welcome to CPDL. Thanks for your contributions. My answers below:
:1. Files are stored on our servers according to their names, so you can update their content very often and easily replace an obsolete version by an updated one, keeping it *the same name*. Consider that the name itself is not so important.
:2. MuseScore files aren't yet in the list but will enter it soon. I just added the corresponding icon: {{Muse}}.
:3. Yes, please add an MXL (compressed XML) file for each edition, just because many more users can open them than a source file from any of each music notation software.

== Work name snafu ==

I just uploaded a metrical Magnificat (#48679) and it came into conflict with a previously submitted Magnificat (#29649).  I didn't think to have a descriptor after the title when I filled in the Add Work form.  So naturally the new Mag picks up the files from the earlier one.  An attempt to change the info of the earlier on back, changes the new one to be the same thing.  I ran into this last year with two settings of Psalm 1, with texts by different authors.  Would you be able to amend the title of #48679 to "Magnificat (Webber)"?  Thanks!    I have a Nunc Dimittis to upload later, and for it I shall make sure I remember to add a descriptor to the title in the Add Work form.  [[User:Tweedfour|Tweedfour]] ([[User talk:Tweedfour|talk]]) 18:13, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
:Hi, Thurlow. Thank you for your contributions. I just created  [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Magnificat_II_(Thurlow_Weed) that page], where you'll be able to replace all the infos by the ones you received by mail. Feel free to give me another descriptor for that page and/or for the previous one. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 19:37, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
::Thanks, Claude.  Am I correct in thinking that I need to change the "Magnficat" in the Chris Webber section to read "Magnificat II" and then proceed with entering the Works entry data pasted into the page you linked?  I just did  trial of that, and in the preview the "Magnificat II" showed in red, as it normally would for a new entry.  [[User:Tweedfour|Tweedfour]] ([[User talk:Tweedfour|talk]]) 20:54, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
::: I don't think so. I changed the content of the "Magnificat II" page with all the information from your recently received mail, as the lyricist (Webber) So, the Webber page now automatically includes "Magnificat II" as a work having text from him. Please add the underlay text of the work at the bottom of [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Magnificat_II_(Thurlow_Weed) your work page]. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 21:13, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
::::Thanks.  I'll get to that in the next day or two.  I'll also make sure the new Nunc Dimittis includes the "II" when I fill in the New Work form, so as to avoid repeating this adventure.  It seems to be a quirk of ChoralWiki -- that a composer page cannot list more than one work with the same title without some designator to separate it from the others.[[User:Tweedfour|Tweedfour]] ([[User talk:Tweedfour|talk]]) 21:51, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

== Corsi da Celano ==

Hi Claude, thanks for cleaning up my terrible coding. I'm trying to do as much as possible myself but just seem to make things worse.
I added this composer yesterday as there was no page and it's still not right... Could you please edit the composer's page to be Giuseppe Corsi da Celano? Also, I've made some corrections and was trying to upload a new file but there wasn't the [[File]] link there, I probably missed it out when I copied the original. Cheers, Will. ([[User talk:Wevans|talk]]) 06:55, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
:Hi, Will. Thanks for your contributions to CPDL. I completed the composer's name. If you want to add a third file to your edition (we like when a source file, particularly in MXL format, is given), click on 'Upload a file' under 'Tools', in the left pane. Then you can add a link near the two others, or I'll do that for you. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 07:07, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

== Morel ==

Bonjour Claude,

[[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 17:04, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

==  How to remove my file? ==
@Claude_T: You reverted an edit I made to remove a link to a Lilypond .ly file. I removed the link because I uploaded the .ly file by mistake--I do not want my Lilypond source files on CPDL (at least not yet -- the code is certainly not commented/ready for use by people other than me). I cannot determine how to remove the uploaded .ly file. I see references to deleted pages in various Wiki docs, but I cannot discover a process to remove a document uploaded by mistake. All I could think of was to remove the automatic link. This is for [[In Human Vesture (J. Guy Stalnaker)]], [[File:InHumanVesture.ly]]. If there is a process to delete a document I'd appreciate guidance on what that is. I'm happy to make the necessary edits to the page once the file is removed. Regards. [[User:Gstalnaker|Gstalnaker]] ([[User talk:Gstalnaker|talk]]) 15:58, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
:I use to remove files that are 'orphans' (recently uploaded but not linked from any edition). We have more than 1,500 such files on our servers, uploaded but unusable by anyone. For each of your files, you can/may click on the white icon on the right of the file link icon. It will open the file's page, where you can easily remove it (if you are the uploader). [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 16:27, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
::Thank you, sir! Understand the method. I didn't notice that the link shown when my cursor is over the File Details icon includes "File:" in the URL making it, well, different and thus to a different wiki page. Thanks for removing the .ly file.

== Arranger page and editor page ==
Claude - you reverted an edit I made to add myself as arranger to the version of this work I uploaded to CPDL. I did that so that the work would show in the list of compositions that are on my CPDL page. I thought the Hassler work would appear in the list of compositions the same way that the Charpentier work appears - title (composer). I compared the two listings and saw that the difference is that the Charpentier has me as both arranger and editor while the Hassler work did not. So, I added myself as arranger tp the Hassler work. The work then appeared in the list of works on my CPDL page. Fifteen minutes later you reverted that edit. When you remove arranger, the work no longer appears in the list on my CPDL page. I take this visibility to be a function of how CPDL wiki constructs the page. I write to you to ask if I'll break anything if I add a section on my CPDL page for works that I've edited, like the Charpentier and Hassler (I'm thinking of doing some more of this editing for the Hassler works that may not yet be on CPDL)? Regards! [[User:J. Guy Stalnaker]] ([[User talk:Gstalnaker|talk]]) 22:47, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
:Your arrangements are on your composer page: [[J. Guy Stalnaker]], the works you edited (being your compositions or from other composers) are on your user page: [[User:J. Guy Stalnaker]]
:Did you arranged Hassler as you arranged Charpentier? For the last one you mentioned it in edition notes, not for Hassler. That's why I removed the 'Arranger' template. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 05:42, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Claude.  You seem to have replaced the <nowiki>{{NameSorter}}</nowiki> template with something like <nowiki>{{Surname, FirstName(s)}}</nowiki>, but that doesn't work, because the <nowiki>{{ ... }}</nowiki> are not supposed to be there when putting an explicit sortkey.  See [[Template:NameSorter]].  Note that the template actually takes the last word in the full name and puts it first, followed by the rest of the words in the full name.  Anyway, I've fixed the three instances you put <nowiki>{{ ... }}</nowiki> around the sort key ... for they had the effect of pushing the entry in the Composers category to "[". -- [[User:CHGiffen|Chuck]][[User talk:CHGiffen|<small>'''talk'''</small>]]&nbsp;[[User:Charles H. So I added a second page [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 with children (Michael Praetorius)]], which I linked to "Musae Sioniae V, No 88".

Not for the first time ever, indeed for the second time tonight, I have had to jettison edits on which I have spent some minutes because you have already implemented stupid amendments whilst I am in the act of posting; which is then blocked. When I have spent a day or more preparing an edition for publication, there is nothing more insulting than having some prat impede my uploading by the ridiculous activity of removing spaces in my text before I have finished posting. Desist: if I or other posters are clearly online, extend us the common courtesy of being allowed to post uninterrupted.[[User:Cjshawcj|Cjshawcj]] ([[User talk:Cjshawcj|talk]]) 20:10, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
If I find time I will add No. 89 from the autograph, put it to [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius)]] and link it to "Musae Sioniae V, No. 89", because it's the most similar source for the existing three editions.

Thanks for adding the text, Claude. Must have got distracted after uploading the files.<br>
Claude, I notice that Paolo Pandolfo has uploaded another of his scanned scores, this time of something by Vaughan Williams, Love's last gift. The copyright is assigned to CPDL but, as VW didn't die until 1958, it is likely still to be copyright in the EU, though perhaps not in the US. Although there is a copyright warning on the composer page, I feel there should be one one on the works page too, but I dont know how to do this. Any thoughts?<br>

:Hi, Jonathan, Many thanks for all your contributions! For what I can see, you uploaded three files concerning that work, but I don't see that you filled the AddWork form as before, for the other works. Please go to the Ortell's composer page, click on 'Add new work' on the upper right part. Fill the AddWork form, but no need to upload the files, you did it already. By the way, adding an MXL (compressed XML) file allows more users to use your edition(s), not only those who have Sibelius. Feel free to upload the MXL file in lieu of the Sibelius one, if you don't want to upload both files. Kind Regards, [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 21:37, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Claude,
Claude. Thanks for this. My version of Sibelius (5.2.5) can only import, not export XML files. The cost of upgrading the software, which in all other respects does everything I want, is disproportionate. I really think the first publication (1601|in ''Le nuove musiche'') ought to be retained in this and other cases. Do you think a red link for 1601 best, or just changing [[A Musicall Banquet]] to 2|1610? [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] ([[User talk:Richard Mix|talk]]) 20:33, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

:Yes, some composer pages are automatically filled and other, manually. But all begins with 'Add new work' on top of the composer page, and filling correctly the AddWork form should insert automatically the new work line at the right place.

Thanks Claude. I made the mistake the first time of saying that I would enter the work myself. That did not work so I added the work a second time going for the automatic option and that seemed to cure the problem. You may, however, want to delete the first score number.

New edition not showing up / thanks for the redirect

Hi Claude, thanks for the redirect on my user page (and for bumping my edition of As Vesta was to the top of the page for chronological ordering--I'll be sure to do that next time).

I see my new edition listed when I view As Vesta was while signed in, but not otherwise. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

Thanks!
Maia.mcc (talk) 04:12, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

You're welcome, Maïa! Recent changes are seen only when connected (logged in). But after a few hours, perhaps a day or so, they remain seeable by anybody.
By the way, we use to add, as a source file, an MXL (compressed musicXML) file with each edition. Claude (talk) 06:45, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Michael Praetorius - Quem pastores laudavere a 4

Hi Claude,

there is an existing page of Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius), which first edition claims to be from Musae Sioniae, fünffter Theil (Michael Praetorius), but the page is not linked to this publication. The two other publications on this page are similar but different, and all three are not any version from "Musae Sioniae V". (In "Musae Sioniae" the numbers 88, 89 and 90 are "Quem pastores a 4", but with different extras).

So I added a second page Quem pastores laudavere a 4 with children (Michael Praetorius), which I linked to "Musae Sioniae V, No 88".

If I find time I will add No. 89 from the autograph, put it to Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius) and link it to "Musae Sioniae V, No. 89", because it's the most similar source for the existing three editions. User:Volker Seibt (talk) 13:16, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
