Sneen dækker mark og mose,
skoven står så mørk og brun,
blank i vest går dagens rose
bort af vintrens blå paulun
Tavshed bor på eng og høje,
stjernen tindrer klart i luft;
hver en busk har lukt sit øje,
hver en stilk har gemt sin duft.
Alle blomsterbørn derude
sove nu så sødt og træt;
ej den hvide vuggepude
rykker deres åndedræt.
Poppelpilens hoved hælder
tankefuldt, med sne belagt,
ak, den drømmer vist - hvad gælder?
om sin rige sommerdragt.
